Kia ora e te whānau,
As we wrap up another fantastic term here at our kura, I’ve been taking a moment to reflect on the whirlwind of energy, growth, and connection that has filled our hallways and playgrounds over the past ten weeks. It truly has been a term of “lots of learning, loads of fun, and heaps of kindness.”
Watching our tamariki dive into new challenges—whether it was mastering a tricky maths concept, showing bravery on the sports field, or leading a school assembly—has been a real highlight for me. But more than the academic milestones, it’s the manaakitanga (care and respect) I see every day that makes this school such a special place to be.
PRIDE in Action
This term has been a true test of our PRIDE values, and I am so impressed by how our students have risen to the occasion. We’ve seen these values shine through in so many ways:
- Resilience and Determination: Tackling the muddy obstacles at Manawatu Tough Kids, pushing for personal bests in Athletics and attempting our first TRY-Athlon, and representing our kura with such heart at various cluster events.
- Positivity: I’ve been so proud of how our ākonga have settled into their new classes, welcoming new staff members into our school whānau, and simply giving their absolute best in their daily learning.
Everything we do is guided by our school vision: To create collaborative, connected, and lifelong learners in an innovative community school environment. Our school whakataukī reminds us of our shared purpose:
“Ma te huruhuru, ka rere te manu.” (Adorn the bird with feathers so it may fly.)
By working together, we prepare, nurture, and support our tamariki so they can soar. Each piece of learning, each act of kindness, and every moment of support from home is a “feather” we provide to help our learners reach their full potential.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Our school is a community that thrives on mahi tahi (working together). I want to extend a massive thank you to:
- Our Staff: For your tireless dedication. Implementing a new Mathematics and English curriculum alongside the many other changes currently in education is no small feat. Thank you for turning up every day with a smile and providing such engaging learning programmes for our kids.
- Our Whānau: For your incredible enthusiasm! Whether you are a part of our BOT or BSSG, or cheering on the sidelines or supporting learning at home, your presence helps make this a fabulous place for us all to be.
Looking Ahead: Introducing HERO
Next term, we are excited to launch HERO, our new Student Management System. Our goal is for this platform to further connect you with your child’s learning journey, making it easier to share in their progress and successes in real-time. Stay tuned for more info on this!
Holiday Wishes
As we head into the break, remember that the best things in life are free. The gift of time spent with those who mean the most to us is what we often forget to treasure the most.
A Quick Question for the Holidays: What was a moment this term where you saw your child “soar” or show their PRIDE values? We’d love to hear your stories when we return!
Enjoy your time together as a whānau. Be safe, be kind, and be happy. We can’t wait to see everyone back, refreshed and ready for more adventures next term.
Ngā mihi nui,
Megan Syme
