PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

2010

Numeracy:  We continue to get the most amazing numeracy support and upskilling through Numeracy Provider Dinah Harvey and her team from Advisors Plus.

We are constantly thinking of new ways to help you to support your child from home and you will find many of these websites fun, interactive and challenging.  And the bonus part is - your child is doing maths!

This is the NZ Maths Website especially set up for families.

MISSION STATEMENT

A COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOR QUALITY LEARNING

"Reach For The Stars"

Description: We are a full primary school catering for students from Years 1-8.  We are located in the rural township of Bulls between Wanganui and Palmerston North.

We believe in high quality teaching and learning in Literacy and Numeracy.  We also believe students need to experience a balanced curriculum including the arts, science, social sociences, health and technology.  Regular physical fitness is also an important part of our programme.

Here are some quotes from our most recent ERO report (May 2009)

  • ...positive relationships between students and teachers based on respect...
  • ...students are enthusiastic and independent learners...
  • ...effective teaching practices advance students learning...
  • ...successfully use technology (8 interactive whiteboards and 2 laptop pods)
  • ...teachers manage classrooms well, provide stimulating and child-centred       surroundings...
  • ...Principal and Senior Managers have a clear vision for continuous improvement...

And finally - in response to National Standards, these ERO comments relate specifically to how we report to parents:

  • ...we provide guidelines encouraging parents to involve themselves in their children's learning...
  • ...regular, comprehensive information about children's achievement and progress is reported to parents...
  • ...programme effectiveness is well monitored through robust self-review...
  • ...ongoing student progress is supported by comprehensive evaluation practices...

 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REPORT:

A Cluster Principal/Deputy Principal Trip to Wellington Term 2:

We were lucky enough to visit 2 fabulous schools - Island Bay School and Wilford School.  We looked at a huge variety of things and can't wait to share the 'best bits' with staff at Bulls School.

Some of the areas we looked closely at:

  • Inquiry Learning
  • Behaviour Management
  • Classroom Environments
  • School Curriculum interpretations
  • National Standards
  • School Culture

We will put up some photos of our group in action soon!
